Ever fall into the trap of always calling on or having the same students participate in class?

Want to hear other students’ voices? Mentimeter is here to save the day!

Mentimeter is a way to gather formative data through an interactive presentation tool. Mentimeter has a variety of options to choose from to interact with your students. Students can join from an app on their phones or through menti.com. The tool can help you tackle the "muddiest point" in your lessons or units. Mentimeter is great for EL students you have in your classroom because you can ask questions in different languages.

Teachers can create up to 5 free quizzes for free, but imported slides are not possible on the Free version. Another tool that allows for more capabilities in their free version is Formative. Check it out as well and decide which you like better! Fill out my poll and cast your vote!

Give students a voice while you gather formative data! Check out my full evaluation here.

Hi, Caroline. Thanks for sharing your review of Mentimeter. I’ve used this at the beginning and end of the semester with my writing classes. I find the ranking and scale questions particularly useful for comparing students’ opinions at the beginning and end of the semester (e.g., having students rank the writing strategies they use at the beginning of the semester and then doing it again at the end of the semester to see how they compare, or having students rank the class activities that were most helpful for improving their writing – this data came in handy for a conference presentation I did last summer!).

Reflect – Mentimeter is an interactive presentation software that allows you to collect assessment data…

Hi Caroline,

What a cool tool! I definitely gotta try it out!

Reflect:

I saw Mentimeter as a nice tool to create on-the-fly formative assessments and have those answered presented in a way to engage group discussions. This tool reminds me of PollEverywhere but the setup for Mentimeter seems much easier to get started and implement. Also, the charts that Mentimeter creates seems a lot more interesting simpler to view than PollEverywhere.

Inquire:

Can students create their own Mentimeter (e.g., surveys, polls,)? Can these results be exported?

Suggest:

The fact that Mentimeter can be translated for EL students is powerful. It would be great if there were more translations done to help our Micronesian and Pacific Islander populations (this goes…

Hi, Caroline!

It was fun learning about Mentimeter - it seems like a great tool!

Reflect: I like that Mentimeter has a comprehensive level of interactivity I had not seen before. It's useful for the games to be integrated with the presentations.

Inquire: It was unclear to me if there's a way to run a report so you can compare students performances on certain questions across classes. That way you could have targeted and historical data about certain questions.

Suggest: Perhaps Mentimeter can also be used as an exit tickets as students leave class in addition to being an interactive way to engage them during a lesson.

Elevate: It seems like the mobile functionality is a big draw for people…
